Thank you and congratulations on your purchase of The Omega Concern's FGM-148 Javelin Anti-Tank Missile. Please read this manual before cleaning up all the tanks in your neighbourhood.

The Omega Concern is dedicated to producing quality work at affordable prices, and we support everything we sell. All of our products are designed with the balance of impact on sim performance and ease of use in mind. If you find one of our products to be causing lag, behaving in unexpected ways, or otherwise being a pest, we need to know so we can correct it.

You are eligible for all upgrades on this version, being version 1. Also, your feedback is valued! If there's something you love, hate, or just think would be better if it were just a little different, we want to know. Your input directly influences the course of development and future features of Omega Concern products.

There is a technical support pass phrase in this manual, which you are strongly advised to use when first contacting support about this product. We do this because other people (not you!) don't bother reading the manual which contains the answers to their questions, thus taking our time and attention away from thoughtful questions not answered in the manual, such as yours. As always, emailing the support address above is preferable to offline IMs and notecards, both of which too easily get lost in the shuffle.

About the FGM-148 Javelin

The Omega Concern's FGM-148 Javelin is a man portable, reusable, fire-and-forget anti-tank missile system with multiple flight profiles for attacking armoured targets and fortifications using the Omega Combat System.

  1. Unpacking and Equipping

    1. Package Contents

The Javelin comes in a very handsome box. Try to avoid being dazzled by its rugged good looks. You will need to rez this box, and select "Open". You shall be presented with a window that looks much like this one:

Press the button "Copy To Inventory", and you will now have a new folder in your inventory named "FGM-148 Javelin 1.0 (Boxed)" (or similar) which will contain the above items.
    2. Attaching

The Javelin requires you to attach one component: The object named "FGM-148 Javelin 1.0" which will (and needs to) attach to the right hand. Upon attachment, you will be prompted to allow its head-up display (HUD) to attach to your screen. Select "Yes". This is a temporary attachment which will detach and delete itself when the launcher is detached.
  2. The Head-Up Display (HUD)

    1. Out of Mouselook

      1. OCS Indicator

When OCS mode is enabled through the player's use of an OCS HUD, this will become orange, as shown.
      2. Top Attack Select

Selects top attack mode. See Operation 3.1 for details.
      3. Direct Attack Select

Selects direct attack mode. See Operation 3.2 for details.
      4. Missile Reload Button and Status Indicator

After firing, to reload a missile, click this button. It will change colour and the outside ring will grow counter-clockwise to indicate the progress of the reload. Take cover before starting a reload. While reloading, you will not be able to move about until the operation is completed, which will take approximately 30 seconds.
    2. In Mouselook

      1. Command Launch Unit (CLU) State

This indicates if the system is ready to designate targets or launch a missile. When you move by walking or running, the CLU takes several seconds to settle down, during which time both these operations are not possible.
      2. Seeker State

Indicates the status of the seeker. Bright green means a target has been designated and is being tracked.
      3. Top Attack Mode Indicator

Shows that the missile is in top attack mode. See Operation 3.1 for details.
      4. Direct Attack Mode Indicator

Shows that the missile is in direct attack mode. See Operation 3.2 for details.
      5. No Missile Indicator

Bright red means that the launcher is unloaded and therefore unable to fire.
      6. Loaded Missile Indicator

Bright green means the missile is loaded and able to seek and designate targets.
  3. Operation

    1. Command Launch Unit (CLU) State

When the CLU state indicates green, the system is ready to designate targets, or if a target is already designated and being tracked, the system is ready to launch. You must not run or walk for several seconds for the CLU to be ready, during which time both these operations are not possible.
    2. Target Designation

To designate a target, while in mouselook center the HUD cross-hairs over it, and press the left mouse button. You will hear a click. If your target is in the same region as you, a successful lock will be nearly instantaneous, the SEEK indicator will light up, you will see the target name and range on your screen, and a solid box will appear over and track the target.

The target must be at least 32 meters from the launcher to achieve a lock.

If your target is outside of the region you are in, designation will take a second or two, but upon a successful lock, the SEEK indicator will light up, you will see the target name and range on your screen, and a dashed box will appear over and track the target. This target indicator may lag a moving target that's in another region, but this will not affect the accuracy of the missile itself, which will update its flight path en route.

The target will stay locked until one of the following conditions is met: A) The missile is launched, B) You leave mouselook, C) You rotate your view such that the target moves out of the reticle box, or D) More than 30 seconds has passed since target acquisition.

    3. Top Attack Mode (TOP)

Top attack mode is primarily designed for anti-armour operations, as the missile will come down on top of a target, where it is usually most vulnerable. Attempting to use top attack mode on a target that is closer than 50 meters will result in the profile defaulting to direct attack mode.
    4. Direct Attack Mode (DIR)

Direct attack mode is most useful for structures or other targets that may be well protected from above.
    5. Firing

After a target has been designated and is being tracked, while in mouselook, press the left mouse button. The missile will be boosted out of the launch tube, its motor will ignite, and it will be on its way to your target.
    6. Reloading

After firing, to reload a missile, click the MSL button while out of mouselook, or use the included gesture. The MSL indicator will change colour and the outside ring will grow counter-clockwise to indicate the progress of the reload. Take cover before starting a reload. While reloading, you will not be able to move until the operation is completed, which will take approximately 30 seconds.
  4. Gestures and Chat Control

The Javelin comes with several gestures for controlling it without having to click the HUD buttons. It also accepts commands via chat, the channel for which is channel 5, so commands can be given in the form of "/5 command" such as "/5 reload" (without the quotes, of course). Commands which are accepted on channel 5 are "reload", "top" and "dir" for reloading the launcher, selecting top attack mode and selecting direct attack mode respectively.
  5. Troubleshooting

    1. The Javelin has been extensively tested and is free of any known bugs. If you believe you have discovered a bug, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and provide, with as much detail as you can, step-by-step instructions for reproducing it. Things don't get fixed if we don't know what needs fixing. :)
    2. If things aren't rezzing for you, check your group tag and make sure it is harmonious with the area you are in, and then detach and reattach the Javelin to ensure correct group tag propagation.
    3. If you seem to be doing no damage in OCS, first make sure you are wearing a current OCS HUD, and have received a message from the rifle stating that it has activated OCS mode.
    4. Asset corruption happens. Rarely, a copy of something will become corrupt and behave in very strange ways. The first thing to try is to unpack a fresh copy of the item from the box in which it came. If that doesn't solve the issue, you can have another box of the same item sent to you via the service kiosk at The Omega Concern's main store. Failing that, contact the support address and request a new box be sent to you and you will receive it as soon as possible.
  6. The End

First, a big thank you to all The Omega Concern's customers who have supported this crazy adventure for so long. I am ever grateful, and always put 100% toward giving you the best I can.

Product releases wouldn't be nearly as solid as they are without the dedicated testing, suggestions and feedback from Eddison Campbell, Eric Sheppard, Caete Chevalier, and Ropemasterdom Skellerjup.

As it always has been, and always will be: Fun is the whole point. Do go have some. :)
