For: WAH-64 1.2, AH-1Z 1.1, UH-60 1.1, Mi-24 1.1, Ka-52 1.1

This is a "point one" update, meaning something significant has been changed or added. What is it?

I have altered the flight suite (i.e. controls and flight model) on all the helicopters to facilitate more "hands off" flight through a couple of new features.

Pitch hold: Once you have the nose down and are moving forward, without further pitch inputs the helicopter will hold the pitch, instead of the previous behaviour where the "weathervane" effect would bring the nose back up.

Collective pitch compensation: Those of you who understand kinematics will realize that pitching the rotor disk will cause a loss of upward thrust, as a portion of that thrust is redirected in the direction of pitch. The helicopters will now, up to the maximum throttle limit, increase the collective proportionally to the current pitch using the magic of trigonometry. This results in the helicopter maintaining its altitude.

I have also changed the input normalization, which could cause simultaneous inputs to appear to cancel one or the other out.

So! You should find the helicopters require much less "staying on top of" to simply fly from point A to point B.

Thank you to those who provided feedback, and I hope you enjoy your helicopter's new performance. :)

A-10C Update 1.0.3 PDF Print E-mail

For those of you who have struggled, yes, I have heard you. I do realize the A-10 can be challenging, especially for those of you who are not used to an aircraft that behaves more like a simulation and less like a toy. So I wanted to make things easier on you. However, I will not dumb down the flight model because I think that's insulting your intelligence, and because as a licenced pilot myself, planes that don't fly like planes just look and feel totally wrong. So, version 1.0.3 introduces "ReCall". I'll let this excerpt from the manual tell you about it.

ReCall Crash Recovery

Yes, the A-10C has a fairly steep learning curve. To help you with the frustration of crashes that end up leaving you grounded and having to to back to the airfield, rez a new plane, go through startup and takeoff again, we have ReCall.

Every 10 seconds ReCall stores 'snapshots' of your position, speed, attitude, and angular momentum and lets you instantly "rewind" to these saved points. It stores two of these, so you can go back as far as 20 seconds in your flight.

To engage ReCall, use the included gesture (Shift-Z) or the chat command /5 recall. The plane will immediately go to the last stored snapshot. If this isn't suitable, issue the command again via chat or gesture.

Caveats: Once you recall a position, it is deleted. So if you go back two steps, you've cleared ReCall and will need 10 seconds before it has a snapshot again. Also, snapshots are wiped when you cross a region border - this is to prevent all kinds of evil. And ReCall will not function in OCS mode.

Okay, not cash per se, but L$!

The hiatus is over, and every Saturday, Fulda Gap is again hosting PvP combat for those OCS mercenaries who can handle the challenge - or are just so broke that shooting friends and strangers alike for money no longer raises sticky ethical questions.

Event times are:

Each Saturday at 12:00-14:00 (12pm-2pm) and 18:00-20:00 (6pm-8pm)

All times are in SLT.

Event prizes are be Linden Dollars (L$) payable to the winner immediately at the end of each event. Only players with a HP score higher than zero are eligible for prize awards.

Prize amounts are as follows:

1st Place: L$1000

2nd Place: L$500

3rd Place: L$250

Please read the complete list of requirements for participation here.

Issues With Region Crossings [Update] PDF Print E-mail

LL tagged this issue as 'critical' so I am a little bewildered as to why a fix for this hasn't been out yet. Therefore, you're all getting helicopter updates this weekend.  The Alligator, Hind and Black Hawk are done, the Viper and WAH-64 are next.

And the six of you who read the update notes and manuals will notice that you can turn off the anti-littering self-delete by selecting"AutoDel" from the options menu. This option is intended for those who wish to display the aircraft on land they lease or group owned land, where they are not the technical landowners.

This feature will be coming to the land vehicles shortly as well.

As was brought to my attention, some OCS vehicles were registering damage upon sim border crossings. After investigating this issue, I determined that the vehicle was colliding with the pilot themselves upon crossing, which is obviously unwanted SL physics behaviour, and filed a bug report with Linden Lab.  They have been able to reproduce this bug, categorized it as "Major" and have triaged it to MAINT-3517.

So a fix is on the way. I'll update this when I find out when it will be deployed, most likely to the RC channels first.
